Your subject librarian is an expert in book purchasing, and will draw on your subject expertise to suggest alternatives. Textbooks should usually have been published in the last ten years, if not the last five, and should be the latest edition. Amazon.co.uk has excellent coverage of the UK book market, and can help find new books from a wide range of publishers, but your librarian has access to the systems of the Library’s suppliers, which provide more focused searching.
