The Talis reading list system is based on linking to web pages, so it is not possible to add pdfs to a list, unless they are online.
- Add Library resources (including books, ebooks, articles, reports, etc) in Summon directly into your reading list using the Add Resource option that appears as you mouse over your list. See How do I add a book to my reading list? or How do I add a journal article to my reading list? or How do I add a web source to my reading list?
- Webpages and web documents (i.e. in online pdf format) can be added to your list using the Talis bookmarking tool. See How do I add a web source to my reading list?
- Where ebook versions are unavailable, book chapters can be digitised and made available in Talis. Ask your subject librarian about this service.
- Where we do not have subscription access to a journal article, the article can be digitised and made available in Talis. Ask your subject librarian about this service.
Please note that the use of Canvas to provide access to pdfs is problematic!
- Unlicensed scans of copyrighted content loaded into Canvas are illegal.
- Downloaded pdfs of books, chapters, and articles added to Canvas, for which you do not have an explicit licence for that use, are illegal.
The University is subject to regular inspection by the Copyright Licensing Agency, and that breaches of copyright law can harm your access to services provided by the Agency (such as digitisation), and bring the University into disrepute. Such breaches also demonstrate a disregard for the hard work and livelihood of the authors concerned. Guidance as to the appropriate use of sources can be found at https://www.bradford.ac.uk/library/help/copyright/ and https://www.bradford.ac.uk/library/help/copyright/bradford-ebooks-for-educational-use/.
